Information & Assistance

Our Information and Assistance department helps seniors and persons with disabilities apply for certain state and federal programs such as energy assistance (L.I.H.E.A.P.) and Benefit Access Application (formerly known as Circuit Breaker). I&A staff also provide Medicare counseling/education through the Senior Health Insurance Program (S.H.I.P.). The Information and Assistance Department operates by appointment only Monday through Friday. Appointments are scheduled between 9 am and 3 pm at our Alton facility. The I &A Department at Senior Services Plus focuses on enhancing well-being and quality of life for seniors and those with disabilities by providing linkage to public benefits and resources.  Listed below are some of the programs we assist with:


Benefit Access Application: Provides a license plate sticker discount and free bus pass to qualifying individuals.

LIHEAP (Energy Assistance) Income based. Apply once Sept.-May *subject to fund availability

Medicare counseling with SHIP (Senior Health Insurance Program) certified counselors who can also screen for Medicare assistance programs such as: Extra Help (Low Income Subsidy) and the Medicare Savings Program which are income and asset based.

Medicaid/SNAP/Cash Assistance Income and asset based. Apply anytime.

Land of Lincoln Legal aid – helps clients 60 and over in Madison County - call 465-3298 to set-up an appointment

Options Counseling – Long-term care options and comprehensive needs assessments through a person-centered planning approach.
