All home-delivered meals for the Meals on Wheels Program of Senior Services Plus, Inc., are prepared at our site in Alton, IL and approved by a licensed dietitian.


All meals are delivered Monday and Tuesday from 7:30am - 1:00pm.

We are currently delivering all frozen meals in a pack of 5, which also includes bread and fruit cups.


Delivery schedule can change if a holiday falls on a Monday or Tuesday.


 

Eligibility

Homebound adults ages 60 or older may qualify to receive our Meals on Wheels service. To see if you qualify, the Southern Illinois Visiting Nurses Association (SIVNA) must perform an in-home assessment.

*Please note that SSP cannot provide in-home assessments.


Spouses of homebound adults, regardless of age, may also qualify if approved by SIVNA.


People under the age of 60 who are disabled and would like to participate in the Meals on Wheels program may be eligible based on a Department of Human Services assessment through the Department of Rehabilitation Services (DORS). To check your eligibility, please call 258-9808.


 

Pricing

Donations are greatly appreciated to help offset the cost of food, containers, and delivery. The suggested donation for the Senior Services Plus, Inc. Meals on Wheels program is $4.00 per meal. Neither your ability to donate or the amount of your donation will affect your eligibility to receive a meal.


Private Pay: Anyone who is willing to pay full price for a meal ($8.00) may also use our Meals on Wheels Program without an assessment. Temporary delivery of home-delivered meals is also available for those recovering from a physical setback such as surgery, illness, or injury.

How are the meals prepared?

Our menu is reviewed by a registered dietician and then prepared by our nutrition staff at our Alton location. Preparation, handling, and delivery strictly adhere to all local and state health laws and ordinances.

How much does the program cost?


Private Pay is $8.00.

What does my donation do for the Meals on Wheels Program?


Donations are greatly needed and help to offset the cost of food, containers, and delivery. Donations also help us expand the program.

How long can I receive Meals on Wheels?

Duration of Delivered meals will be assessed by either Insurance Providers or SIVNA. Assessments are usually authorized for one year. SIVNA will reassess annually.

When will my meals start coming?


Once SSP receives your assessment from SIVNA or an authorization from your insurance carrier, meals are usually scheduled for the following week. Our current schedule is on Monday or Tuesday. 9am-1pm.

What if I need a meal over the weekend or on a holiday?

Currently we are delivering weekend meals with our regular delivery.

Senior Services Plus, Inc. offers meals Monday through Friday. All meals are prepared by our chefs and approved by a registered dietitian. One-third of the daily nutritional requirements are fulfilled with each meal.


We currently have two facilities that offer congregate meals:
1. Alton: 2603 N. Rodgers Ave, Alton, IL 62002 (Breakfast and Lunch served 7am - 1pm)
2. Granite City: 2060 Delmar Ave, Granite City, IL 62040 (Lunch only served at 11am)

 

Eligibility and Pricing


  • Individuals ages 60 or older can enjoy a hot lunch for a suggested donation of $4.00
  • Individuals under 60 can enjoy that same meal for a required donation of $5.00
  • All clients must be approved either through SIVNA or their insurance. Insurance companies that we are seeking include Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Molina, Meridian, and DORS (for clients under 60)
